#007 Is Your School Undermining Your Family? (What You Need to Know)
Mar 05, 2024If you’ve ever had that gut feeling like something’s off when it comes to your child’s school… you’re not imagining it.
That resistance you feel? That discomfort when your child starts pulling away, acting differently, or losing motivation?
You’re seeing the quiet collision between your family’s values and the values baked into a system that was never designed to serve your child.
The Education System Wasn’t Built to Support Families
We’ve been led to believe schools are here to help us raise successful kids.
But the roots of the American education system—and especially the standardized testing structure that defines it—tell a different story.
Let’s take the SAT, for example.
It wasn’t invented to measure potential. It was created to rank and sort human beings, based on early 20th-century eugenic beliefs. One of its creators, Carl Brigham, was a vocal advocate of using testing to “scientifically” prove that certain races and classes were inferior.
Yes. That’s the origin of the test still used today to determine “college readiness.”
And who funded this model? Rockefeller-backed interests—the same people invested in shaping a workforce, not a thriving generation of individuals. The purpose was compliance, efficiency, predictability… not empowerment.
What Does This Have to Do with Your Family?
Here’s the honest truth:
The system your child enters each morning has a blueprint. It rewards conformity, standardized thinking, and measured achievement. And it rarely leaves room for individuality, creativity, or emotional well-being.
So if your child feels like they’re not good enough because they’re not thriving in that system—it’s not your parenting.
It’s the environment.
If your family culture emphasizes curiosity, emotional intelligence, faith, or non-traditional strengths… the system may be quietly undermining what you’re building at home.
You Know Your Child Better Than Any System
That “something isn’t right” feeling isn’t paranoia.
It’s discernment.
And it’s time we trust it.
You are the parent. You see the big picture. You’re allowed to question a model that was never built to nurture your child as a whole person.
There Are Better Ways
The good news is, you’re not the only one who sees it.
From Montessori to Alpha School and other modern reformers, there’s a movement of families, teachers, and creators building something better.
They’re bringing education back to the individual.
Back to joy.
Back to growth.
Back to the family.
